M3T has an impact on a number of challenges golf course superintendents and greenkeepers are continuously called upon to manage. Proven to eradicate algae and calcification in course irrigation systems, it also has the ability to positively affect the overall health and condition of the turf, reduce root sickness, improve water utilization, and boost efficacy of fertilizer programs.

M3T is a natural biodegradable product, containing no petrochemicals, alcohol, glycol or ammonia. It is supplied in liquid form which is simply added to water storage systems or dosed into irrigation systems.

Our patented M3T product is classified as a surfactant although to do so would be an injustice to its remarkable properties. M3T has all the standard surfactant properties, such as powerful de-agglomeration, wetting, emulsification, and spreading agent. What makes it unique though is its unusual composition of seawater, plant oil derivative, and salts, which incorporate essential elements and minerals. It amplifies the processes of:

• algae eradication and control,

• calcification breakdown in water systems,

• temperature resistance and moisture control,

• greatly reduce root problems and Poa annua growth,

• boosts bacterial propagation in soil, and

• increases nutrient uptake.

 

Eradicates algae and calcification

Algae growth in water systems is a significant challenge for superintendents. Algae build-up causes ongoing blockages in irrigation systems, can damage turf, causes unwanted odours, and is not aesthetically pleasing if it invades ponds and pools. M3T is a powerful de-agglomeration agent. Treated water efficiently breaks algae apart, thus halting its proliferation. It greatly reduces the need to treat water sources with algaecides and other chemically based solvents. Furthermore, treating ponds and pools will leave them substantially cleaner and more translucent.

 

Calcification build up in pipes and filters cause severe water flow problems and blockages, leading to the reduction of sprinkler heads operating efficiently. M3T eradicates calcification and continuous usage will avoid calcification treatment with toxic chemicals or the expensive and disruptive practice of replacing pipes.

Assists in better water utilisation

Improving water usage without sacrificing turf quality is the holy grail for golf courses. M3T goes a long way to achieving this. It reduces the surface tension of water which helps water penetrate more evenly into the soil. This promotes a uniform spreading of the water through the soil, which prevents channelisation. Soils, therefore, retain moisture levels closer to the turf roots for extended periods. In addition, its wetting properties increase the spread of water over folio surfaces, dramatically increasing absorption of nutrients mixed in the water. The net effect of these combined benefits translates into more effective water utilisation and may reduce water usage in many instances. “Since the introduction of M3T on our course, we noticed that we only need to turn on our sprinklers every six hours instead of every four and the grass is more heat resistant than before”.

Boosting fertiliser effectiveness and soil health

M3T amplifies the efficiency of fertilisers. It achieves this through the combined effect of four of its primary properties:

• de-agglomerates nutrient solids into smaller particles, incorporating them into tiny droplets, which paves the way for more effective absorption.

• emulsifying capability which holds nutrient particles in suspension for longer ensuring a homogeneous distribution of fertiliser in the soil.

• enhanced wetting properties ensure effective distribution of the fertiliser over turf surfaces.

• packed with sea and plant based minerals and nutrients (68 trace elements).

 

Reduces sodium deposits

There is a natural accumulation of sodium in soil from fertilisers, pesticides, and the breakdown of minerals that release salt. A more considerable contribution comes from sodium-rich underground water sources and coastal spray. High concentrations of sodium translate into a rapid decline in soil structures and severely reduce water absorption by turf at the root level. The potential damage varies from mild discolouration to wilting and even turf death. M3T has the ability to reduce these unwanted sodium deposits. Studies in New Zealand conducted by Fonterra on pastures, have resulted in more than a 20% reduction of active sodium in high-saline soils over a treatment period in trials done at their Dartmouth plant.

Future research and international expansion

Successful trials at one of the top golf courses in the USA led to M3T being implemented as part of their permanent management program. “We had our member/member the last week of October and the course has never looked this good. Pitch repair on the greens left no visible sand or marks and upon inspection it was noted that the roots of the grass on the greens were at least 1/3 longer than they have ever been”.

A leading University in the USA will commence with a complete scientific study from January 2025 and will examine the effect of M3T on all types of grass, water usage, fertilizer efficiency, effect on water reticulation hardware, and general course condition.

Part of the study will include monitoring at least seven top USA golf courses. The list is expanding and some are not waiting for the university study to begin, and are already commencing with the implementation of M3T as soon as possible.
